20th March 201120th March: It's been a really really long day today. We were down south at my parents', and the journey back to Glasgow took us 10 hours! Thanks to a corroded water pipe in the engine, which left us with no water (apart from a few drips in the wrong place!). The RAC came and did a wonderful job; as it was Sunday nowhere was open but the man phoned a scrapyard and he and HD drove off to pick up the relevant part, and I waited behind in the service station (Tebay, the best service station in the UK bar none!). Mostly I read and had a cup of tea, but then I looked up and noticed this fine fellow standing serenely in the pond outside, beautifully reflected. It took a few attempts to get a decent photo, it was mostly looking straight at me which didn't work so well (with those dull colours it looked like it didn't have a head!). Seeing this beauty certainly brightened up a long old day! 19th March: 19th March 2011 The reason we were down south, as well as to celebrate my PhD, was to celebrate my mum's birthday. It was a lovely day, we got to see quite a few family members including my cousin whom I've not seen for ages who was really on form. I know it's Lent but I couldn't not have birthday cake, now could I? 18th March: 18th March 2011 On the way down south, we had lunch at one of our other favourite places for eating on a long journey, the Llama Karma Kafe on the A66. This, surprisingly enough, is a couple of llamas - the front one's moustache made me laugh.
