40 days to go

There's something ominous about the 40 days/40 nights thing.

I'm back from a lovely couple of days in Northern Ireland, where we were having a big family celebration (HD and his dad both had birthdays-with-0s-in-them, and his brother recently got engaged) and I also got the chance to see my friend from London who moved to NI shortly after I moved to Scotland. It was short but sweet, and good to get away and see lovely people (there are photos on facebook, I'll put some on here in the next couple of days).

I haven't done as much thesis work today as I could have done (I've been productively procrastinating by checking the academic jobs sites. Although not that productive as there aren't any jobs that leap out, this week anyway). But I have gone over my methodology chapter again and found that what I had in my head as several pages of angst (and therefore needing considerable pruning) is actually only a couple of paragraphs (so fine to leave), which means that I can concentrate on more detailed fine-tuning. That's a good thing.

My plan for the week: a couple of hours each evening to do the fine tuning of the lit review, methodology and two empirical chapters (one per night), leaving my day off on Friday for the megachapter, and the weekend to really get into the Introduction and Conclusion. I'll be in trouble if I don't manage that, so if you see me spending ages on line then poke me with a cattleprod or something.
