Thanks to the eruption of Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano earlier this week and the resultant plume of ash currently wafting through the atmosphere above northern Europe carried on the jet stream, UK airspace has been closed down since yesterday (though NI and Scotland's reopened earlier today; England and Wales' remain closed until at least tomorrow morning). The skies have been eerily quiet, but there was quite a bit of talk yesterday about the ash in the atmosphere meaning we'd have a spectacular, if not apocalyptic sunset. Although I did think that might be a bit of an exaggeration, I collared HD into coming out to Queen's Park with me (we'd been for a walk there at the weekend and watched a great sunset and I was a bit cross with myself then that I didn't have my camera with me) to see the sunset over the city.
To be honest it was a bit disappointing. It was OK, but as there were no clouds it wasn't very dramatic and in fact was rather ordinary.
I quite like this picture because of the silhouettes of the trees and church though:
And I took this one before the sun set, I just like it. You can see at last that there is a hint of buds on the trees - maybe they'll get leaves this year too :)
