Other commentators (including bloggers here on the wibsite) have lots of intelligent things to say about the UK's upcoming borefest General Election. Sad to say, I just can't bear it, our politicians are all such dullards, so anything I have to say on the matter will be as shallow as you have no doubt come to expect from this blog.

I did however try answering the questions here and I have been rather surprised by my result, which suggested that my closest match in terms of policies is the Scottish National Party. I am a lifelong (but increasingly despairing) Labour voter, but on this quiz anyway they came 4th out of 4 (you have to specify which parties you'd consider voting for and cut out those you'd never vote for, so in my case it didn't count the Tories, UKIP or the BNP and just compared Labour, SNP, Lib Dems and Scottish Greens). There are aspects of the SNP minority government here that I have found impressive, and I have to say that Scottish Labour are a particularly uninspiring bunch at the moment. But I'm yet to be at all convinced by the independence argument (though I do favour increased devolution), and Alex Salmond (the SNP First Minister) is such a smug git I can hardly bear it.

I have pretty much decided how I am going to vote (I'm not going to tell you here! - I reserve the right to change my mind and so will keep my inconsistency to myself). I'm just sad that for yet another election I am voting because I don't want the Tories to get in, rather than that I think any of the others are actually going to make any difference for good.

This 4 weeks is going to feel like 4 years. And yet I hardly dare think what will happen after it.
