Today I returned to Glasgow. The last few times I have flown the journey as it has worked out cheaper, and I just had to reassure myself that my excessive guilt was some sort of punishment for my huge carbon footprint. This time however the train was cheaper so, having convinced myself that there's not all that much in it time-wise between train and plane, once you've factored in getting to and from the airports, hanging around check-in, waiting for baggage etc etc, I bought my tickets and felt cuddly and generally environmentally smug. But it's a lie, readers! Door to door took 8 1/2 hours! We usually drive from Luton to Glasgow faster than that! And to start with I had to sit on the floor in the vestibule opposite the stinky toilet because it was so crowded, and then when I did get a seat it was backwards all the way, and I was quite sleepy so kept nodding off rather than doing anything useful like work. And the worst thing - I keep sneezing, and am a little concerned that this is a sign of encroaching man flu. (If it is I am sure HD will be very very relieved that he's still in Luton - I am the world's worst patient, especially when I am on my death bed with man flu, as it is always very serious and life-threatening when I have it).

And of course, having been dozy the entire journey, now I'm home I'm wide awake and can't go to sleep.
