Last night we went for a meal cooked by a friend at church, and a couple of conversations amused.

F1: [talking about the difference between applied and pure maths] Someone we know did a PhD on [name of mathematical theory] which as far as I can tell is just about what point on a line you put a 0 on.
Me: Ooh that reminds me of my music degree, someone in my year did a dissertation which was entirely on the use of F# in a particular Chopin piano sonata.
[reasonably long conversation about what that could all have been about, etc etc, way to take the joy out of music, that sort of thing.]
[Logical end of conversation topic]
[Pause]
Me: Actually, it might have been C#.

And then this one (can't remember the antecedents to this particularly random exchange):

F2: Didn't rabbits get brought over here by the Romans?
HD: No, snails came over here with the Romans. Actually not all snails, but the stripy ones the Romans brought over for culinary purposes. Rabbits came over with the Plantagenets, so are relatively recent.
[Stunned silence]
Me: It's like having my own personal wikipedia.

In other news, my camera appears to have packed up. Woe! I have a film camera I can use, and I shall try out HD's camera too, as he hardly ever uses it. I'm a bit nervous about using it as it's posher than mine was, and I'm worried about breaking it, but he says he'd rather I used it and broke it than it doesn't get used. So I shall play around with it tomorrow and see how I get on. I'm a bit sad about my little camera though - I've had it over 4 years and taken millions of pictures, so I've got my money's worth from it, but I was hoping for another couple of years out of it before having to upgrade. At least using HD's camera will give me a bit of time, as we certainly don't have the funds to buy the kind of camera I'd like.

In other other news, I passed the online test thingy, so the OU interview next week is going ahead. Eek.

In other other other news, we are going to a gig tonight, can't wait. Will tell you all about it tomorrow :)
