Does my bum look big in this?

Today I'm wearing a dress I bought in Romania (which also had an outing at Greenbelt) (the dress I mean, not Romania), which I'm really pleased with. When I saw it in the supermarket and realised that it cost less than a fiver, I bought three of them! It's cotton and has beads and embroidery and things on it, and is the kind of strappy cotton short dress that is just great for going over flared linen trousers or suchlike. Now, that is a fashion of which I wholeheartedly approve. The dress is long enough to cover all the downstairs wobbly bits (and, currently, also long enough to hide the, um, extra ventilation hole that has appeared on the inside leg of the trousers) but because it's a dress it feels smarter than a T-shirt so I can wear it for work and not feel too scruffy, but I also don't feel overdressed. So far so good.

However, it occurred to me as I was walking to the bus-stop yesterday that I might just as well be wearing a great big sandwich board saying "Look at me, I'm foreign". Although I feel really comfortable and happy with how I look dressed like this, and at Greenbelt I could pretty much blend in to the background as it's a reasonably common combination of clothes, here Nobody (with capital N) wears a short dress over trousers. Plenty of (ludicrously) short dresses and miniskirts, or even hotpants, complete with stilettos, and lots of leopard-skin print. And that's just the men (not really, but I couldn't not say it could I?!). And the things is, the women get away with it because they're all beautiful and slim and have amazing legs. If I wore hotpants and stilettos, I'd have everybody running for cover. I think I shall stick to my tent-like dress and flatties (though am wearing some new flatties for the first time today so my feet are shredded), and just shake my bingo wings at anyone who reckons it makes my bum look big.
