Today we had an adventure and went to the island of Great Cumbrae for the day. We did a squelchy walk and wandered round the southern edge of the island, and explored Millport a bit (the only town). I also took lots of pictures, as the coast road has really good views over to the islands of Bute and Arran. On the way back to the bus to get back to the ferry we looked in the windows of the estate agents - oh my goodness those house prices are tempting! There's something about island life that really is very attractive - I loved Harris on our honeymoon, and really enjoy reading Smudgie and Auntie Doris talking abut island life. We'll see. It's a bit out of reach for now.
We also took a quick walk up to the Cathedral of the Isles, which is the smallest Cathedral in the British Isles (and possibly in Europe too). Unfortunately it was closed so we couldn't look inside, but that didn't stop me taking pictures :) Likewise we tried to go to the Garrison House, which has a museum about the history of the island, but we got there at 3.10 and it shuts at 3. We'll know for next time I guess :)
The first picture is of Largs (where we got the ferry) from the boat, the rest are either on the island or the views over to Arran and Bute.
