So, months and months ago I submitted an abstract for a conference paper, which was accepted and I will be speaking at the conference* at the end of next month. Realised today that for supervision next week I said I'd have given my supervisors a draft outline of my talk. Have just read the abstract and realise I know Absolutely Nothing about what I said I'd talk about. What was I thinking?!

A few things can happen at this point, depending on the student. These are:

* Feverish frenzy of work culminating in work of brilliance.
* Anxious staring at screen praying for inspiration (which may or may not be forthcoming).
* Increasingly crazed wide-eyed expression as the reality of PhD life starts to sink in.
* Major episode of Denial.
* Out and out panic.

I haven't decided yet which one I'm going to go for.

* Scary Big Conference of the major academic society of my discipline - anyone who's anyone will be there. So no pressure then.
