Today's service was wonderful - very simple, and when Patrick (a former actor) read John 18 and 19 you could have heard a pin drop. Much more moving for me than watching two hours of blood and gore in the cinema, although "The Passion" certainly has its place so I'm not knocking it. A few of us sang a couple of songs - Jesu, grant me this I pray by Gibbons and O Domine, O Christe by Margaret Rizza. Considering we'd only got together to rehearse this morning it went rather well, and the Gibbons in particular was beautiful.

Behold the man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders;
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished.
