Floodlight

For the non-Londoners, Floodlight is the annual listing of part-time day and evening courses that are put on throughout London in everything from Accounting to Zulu. I bought it today, as I'm wanting to start a couple of language courses in the autumn in preparation for my PhD application, and I wanted to find at least one local one as otherwise it will mean two treks up to central London each week after work (which will play havoc with my hectic and terribly organised exercise schedule, cough splutter). It's such fun flicking through to see the wild and wacky things I could study if I was so inclined - I was very tempted by the bagpipe course (although sadly it's a bit far away, and the same night as Romanian), also car maintenance would come in really handy and some of the arty courses look great fun too. Not to mention "Can't Dance Workshop" at a college near me - sounds about my level! But for this year I'll have to just stick to Romanian and Russian - I think that will be plenty somehow, especially as I'd be starting Russian absolutely from scratch and have never tried learning a language with a different alphabet before.

I'll definitely be giving the gymnastics classes a miss - unlike virtually all of the other courses, that doesn't tempt me in the slightest.
