As I'm studying with the Open University, it means that I often get shedloads of stuff through the post (for those outside the UK/EU, the OU is a university where you study pretty much entirely by correspondence/distance). Yesterday I got a brochure of courses by the Faculty of Social Sciences, as one of the optional modules I did (this time last year) was one of theirs. I really should have just put it into the recycling, but I started to flick through it (as you do) and found a course which would be really useful background for my PhD. I can't believe I was seriously tempted - I can't wait to finish my current studies and have a bit of time to relax, studying another Masters module would be a nightmare - but I really did consider doing it. In the end I've just decided to order the text books, which will come in handy as background reading for the PhD application, and decided not to do the course - partly because I'll need the £500 course fee to pay for boring stuff like solicitors fees, partly because it will clash with moving house/city and the start of the PhD course if that happens, and partly because if I do it it won't start till next May and that will mean 5 summers in a row where I've been studying instead of doing normal things like sitting in the garden sipping wine in the evening.
So, apart from Romanian and Russian from this autumn, if any of you hear me talking about doing any other courses in the coming year, you have my permission to poke me with a sharp stick.
