It's been mad! Firstly went to the ship Brum meet on Friday night after w*rk, as a surprise for the wonderful holly who is about to move to Sheffield (read about it in holly's blog). Very entertaining train journey, courtesy of a very funny couple from Wolverhampton who were opposite me the whole journey. It makes such a difference when people are sociable. Two other shipmates were also leaving Birmingham to start vicar training, including Justus who very wonderfully put me up for the night and whose house I hope I didn't trash too much (I am generally pretty housetrained). Great to catch up with a few people I've not seen for a while and meet some new people too, and also great to give them all a good send-off to their new lives in new places.
Then yesterday it was back over to (near) London to the wedding of two more shipmates, Tigglet and Wairua. A very good time was had by all - a fantastic wedding, I managed (only just) not to cry, some fabulous outfits (!), interesting balloons, some very expensive table water, and lots more lovely people from the ship to catch up with. Also good to catch up with the wibsite's very own Shifty Gnome, who gave me far too much information about where he writes his blog (clue: take a look at the picture at the top of his blog).
I was then supposed to go to Spike's 40th birthday party, but Nanny Ogg and I got the slowest train in the world back to London so by the time I got back to my particular bit of the Big Smoke it was 10.30pm so I thought it was probably a bit late. Oh well - Spike if you're reading this hope you had a great day mate!
Today has been a bit calmer - church this morning and not going to the gym this afternoon. I did however go to the supermarket after church as I needed some milk, only to find their new range of clothes and (whoops) I think I got a bit carried away. I also bumped into a former flatmate who I've not seen for a couple of years, we lived together with a couple of other girls in a mad mad house which made me vow never to houseshare again, but now with a bit of time and water under the bridge we get on much better and it was actually lovely to see her (and her daughter who is now 4 - how did that happen?! She was a baby last time I saw her!). This afternoon I'm catching up with housework and sorting out my stuff for going away - I'm off on Thursday to Scotland to housesit for a friend and write up my dissertation, but it feels like I have about a million things to do before then. And I don't even want to think about what's in my diary for work the next 3 days - I'm trying to pack everything in before I go as much as I can so it's not dumped on my colleague, but it's looking like I might have to do a few extra hours somewhere to get it all done.
And I have my first Russian lesson tomorrow! I must say I'm rather looking forward to it, though I could do with a few extra hours in the day to fit it all in. And I still need to sort out Romanian (which I think starts on Tuesday) - I may well have to miss the first couple of classes and slot in in a few weeks' time, though at least I'm not a beginner so that's not so bad.
Anyway, I'm glad I'm getting away soon - I know I'll be working, and it won't be easy, but hopefully being away will still be a chance to relax a bit, in mind if not in actual activity.
