Culture

I do realise that I neglected to do anything cultural in October (despite vowing on these very boards to do at least one cultural thing a month). I had been thinking about maybe doing a museum or something equally cultural yesterday, but stuff in general put paid to that and instead I went to that bastion of culture, Ikea. Fortunately (unlike my usual Ikea experiences) I had a list of what I wanted from which I didn't deviate. Well, apart from the picture and the frame. But they do look so good. I also bought a new armchair - my lodger is, at long last, completing on her new flat on Tuesday and I'm donating my chairs to her. I got given them by someone from church when I first moved into an unfurnished flat, and although they've been ever so handy I never did like them, they always reminded me of the dentist's waiting room, even when covered by a fancy throw. But she's really grateful for them, and as she has a bad back she actually really appreciates their, uh, lack of give. I was so overwhelmed by all the furniture I've been given over the years and always hoped that I could be as generous in return. I feel guilty that I'm giving her something that I don't like and am glad to be rid of, but I know they will help her out just as they helped me out a few years back. I'm planning on buying her one of those fab spider catchers as well - as she's even more of a wimp than me when it comes to our 8-legged friends - though in a purpose built 1st floor flat hopefully she'll get a lot fewer spiders than I do here. I certainly hope so, as I won't be around to get rid of them for her.

Back to culture - I'm going to have to be available for nursing the next couple of weekends, and I'm going to a wedding the last weekend of the month (at Eltham Palace, see link left, one of my previous culture vulture places), so new culture might be hard to come by this month as well. Though having said that, all of next week except Tuesday I am doing Agenda for Change training at Southwark Cathedral (of all places), so even though I've been there before I may well have to report on that for you instead. Hopefully I'll get beyond the bookshop :D
