Confustication

So, I'm wanting to crack on with my research proposal. So far so good - ideas are in the process of being written down, appropriate information is being gathered. However - advice from tutors as to the length of proposal and the closing dates don't coincide at all with information in the postgraduate prospectus or on the uni website.

It's challenging enough trying to write a good proposal which stands a chance of being considered. These differences just add to the stress, and I haven't even started to try to negotiate the ESRC website yet (that's a real vicious circle - they're the body that pay funding for PhD research (amongst other things), but you need a PhD just to be able to navigate their site in the first place). I'm mildly comforted by the fact that the uni tutors said they found the ESRC site equally baffling, so I guess if nothing else I'm in good company.

And I thought my dissertation was hard work!
