Surprise call

I had a call this evening totally out of the blue from a friend from uni (the first time I went to uni, round about the time the wheel was invented). Although we've not been great at keeping in touch, and haven't seen each other for a good few years, we've never totally lost touch with each other, and in fact we'd stayed very much in touch several years ago when he was having a particularly awful time and I think that time really did cement our friendship when a lot of people walked away from him. It turned out that he was the perfect person to lift my spirits. Anyway, we've arranged that I'll go and stay at his in the new year, his partner is dead arty and so it sounds like I'll be staying in perfect taste house (none of this Changing Rooms stuff for them that's for sure), in the countryside, sipping sherry in their new perfectly decorated breakfast bar. I know it sounds like a really small thing, but I can't believe how much it has cheered me up.

Actually, that will be a really good incentive for me to lose some weight. I'll feel like I'm on "Queer Eye" going to their house, I'd better make sure that I'm looking good! (actually that's not true, they really won't give a toss what I look like, but they'll both look so great I want to feel good for myself!).

In other news, the tutor clarified a lot of my questions today, and the upshot of the word limit saga is that I need to do both a 500 and a 1000 word proposal (perhaps it would have been better not to have asked!). The Masters tutor has said she'll do the reference (hooray), and they want another academic reference so the HV tutor or HV manager dilemma is resolved anyway. Now to put all this stuff down on paper ... sigh ... anybody got an extra few hours they can spare me? The 24 hours a day I have just isn't enough.
