To end my crappy week, a lovely surprise which I know Maddie, if nobody else, will appreciate.
Mid-way through today, my health visiting assistant suddenly said "Oh yes, I forgot to tell you ..." - my colleague who retired in September was visiting yesterday, and had left an envelope for me. In said envelope was her leaving present from the surgery - £100 worth of vouchers from a certain central London travel book/map shop starting with S that Maddie has been known to frequent on occasions. They'd given them to her as she'd said she hoped to travel when she retired - but she always travels to see family and she's really not a travel writing/map/guide book kind of person, and she's spent the last few months wondering what on earth to do with them (I don't think I'll have that problem!). In the end she just gave up and gave them to me. How lovely is that?
Actually I do feel a bit guilty - she'd worked there for years and here I am getting her (very generous) leaving present for nothing. But I'm sure I'll overcome the guilt soon enough :)
