This morning I got (somewhat reluctantly it has to be said) roped into a campaign in local schools to immunise children who hadn't completed their course of MMR (they're supposed to have two, but due to the media frenzy, hype and hysteria about MMR over the last few years the take up rate in our bit of London is shockingly low, to the extent that I wouldn't be surprised if we have a major measles outbreak in the next year or so). I normally immunise babies, so the thought of jabbing hefty 10 year old boys who are bigger than me didn't exactly fill me with the joys of spring.
Anyway, I must admit I quite enjoyed myself. Especially jabbing the hefty 10 year old boys who were bigger than me. They would come in all swagger and "I'm not scared", and then would go "Whoah, look at the size of that needle!" when they caught sight of my (tiny, weeny) needle. It's amazing the sense of power you can get from an orange needle! And I would smile sweetly and jab them and laugh that they were just as eager to get a lolly afterwards for being brave as the 4 and 5 year olds were.
