Grace has shone forth from your mouth like fire, illuminating the inhabited world.
You have treasured for the world the treasures of silver-hating and revealed to us the sublimeness of humility.
Wherefore, O educator, by your words, O John the golden-mouthed, intercede with, Christ God to save our souls.
Troparion

Having received divine grace from heaven,
with your mouth you teach all men to worship the Triune God.
All-blessed and venerable John Chrysostom,
we worthily praise you, for you are our teacher, revealing things divine!
Kontakion

Today we celebrate the Feast of St John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople. Chrysostom is a Greek compound word meaning golden mouth, and it was given to St John because of the eloquence of his preaching. His life is well worth a read: he preached the faith truly, was loved by the people, but raised the ire of the Emperor, and the Empress specifically, because he was not afraid to denounce wrong-doing: even if it was the Empress doing wrong. A true light and shining example to us all of the Good Shepherd, who gives his life for the sheep (which is the Gospel reading for St John's Feast Day).
