I've started my job as the Office IT Coordinator today.
My first act was to clean up the mess of a server room we have. I'm not sure how many of you have been in a server room; ours is true to form a mess of boxes, cables, keyboards, more boxes...and a bed. In case you need to sleep overnight presumably. The temperature is kept at around 20°C, so I'm quite happy to be in there. Lovely and cool. Though it does seem cooler than 20°C at times...and it does get a bit cold if you're in there too long.
There were several old modems, several old computer boxes and several keyboards which I don't think have seen the light of day since 1995. Add to this several cables strewn across the floor. I noted to the head IT guy that I was cleaning up and getting rid of a lot of junk; his response: "Why?" I guess he's not as anal-retentative as I am, but I do like neatness. And having boxes precariously perched on the top of shelves does not give me confidence when I walk in.
Best get back to it. Sorting out the software next.
