I've seen two [rather large] groups of World Youth Day pilgrims out here in the wild west of Sydney over the past few days. It does make me feel some joy: how wonderful to see so many people, from such a wide variety of places, all gathered here in the name of Christ. I will be taking a half-day Friday so I can go into the city with a friend in the afternoon for the Stations of the Cross; while I am not one for crowds, and thus will probably not attend any other events, I am greatly looking forward to it.
Two bloggers I read, ecumaniac and Fr Daren Zehnle [a priest from Illinois] are in Sydney for WYD and I have enjoyed reading their recent blogs in particular; Fr Daren's comments on Sydney, and its surrounds, from an international visitor are interesting to read, as views from visitors always are.
My prayers and best wishes to all who are here for WYD. Sydney has done its usual thing [remember the Olympics?] of whinging and whining until the actual event comes, and then getting all excited once it starts: a strange city at times -- but home for me nevertheless.
In other news, I have just bought chant - Music for Paradise by the Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz, and am grealty looking forward to listening to it. Gregorian chant and Western monastic services are among my favourite forms of worship and praise to God.
