The Servant of Two Masters

I've just returned from the The Sydney Theatre. I attended the preview night of The Bell Shakespeare Company's production of Carlo Goldoni's wondrous romantic comedy The Servant of Two Masters.

From the Bell Shakespeare website:

Truffaldino is an out of work servant and in one fantastic day he ends up with two jobs. And why not - he's broke and hungry. Two jobs mean twice the money, twice the food and twice the work. His two masters turn out to be long-lost lovers desperately trying to find each other - not an easy task when one is a woman disguised as a man!

Absolutely hilarious! If you are in Sydney and have a night free between now and December 17, I can heartily recommend that you go and see it. The actors and actresses were fantastic and it was clear to see they were revelling in their comedic roles; the adaptation by Nick Enright and Ron Blair translated easily into our world; and the vaudeville acts within had the theatre continually in stitches; and the dialogue...fantastic...hilarious. I was swept up and carried away to Venice and drawn into it for the two and a bit hours.

For those near enough to Bath, England, the Bell Shakespeare Company are presenting The Comedy of Errors at the Bath Shakespeare Festival 2006. I have enjoyed every Bell Shakespeare production I've been to, and if you enjoy theatre I can assure you you'll enjoy the adaptation and presentation of the play.
