As there was no parking near Ashfield, I went to the next station along the CityRail network, Summer Hill.
Wow. Although it's an all-stops service, it only took five or so minutes extra. But, more interestingly, the train was practically empty when I got on. Loads of space. Plenty of it. And, even better, it was air-conditioned. Bliss. I think Summer Hill will be my station of choice for the next week.
It was also interesting to see the stations and surrounds my trains usually zoom past: Lewisham, Petersham, Stanmore, Newtown and Macdonaldtown. I think I'll blog a bit about the things I saw this week.
Today: people.
Newtown is definitely the bohemian centre of Sydney, though it was the more professional looking people who boarded the train -- perhaps hiding nipple and other rings under their suits. Young hip and trendy professionals, this is the Inner-West (close to the city and its delights), and students seemed to be the ones boarding at the stations before Newtown. And I don't mean hip and trendy to be disparaging: they are young, no doubt doing well for themselves and looking good. I find it interesting to see the styles and persons who inhabit different areas of the city. Macdonaldtown (where, as a kid, I used to believe Ronald McDonald lived!) had the urban professionals get on. And then we were in the city.
