I went for another ride last night: and I have to say I am actually quite enjoying it.
After two very warm days, yesterday was a bit cooler and a change came through in the afternoon making it even more pleasant. Again, I've discovered that certain streets are a bit steeper when you are tackling them outside the comfort of your car: it takes more than a further press on the accelerator to get you up those hills.
[As an aside, I know my European readers will be appalled to learn that I drive an automatic: and that I cannot drive a manual. I recall when I was in Ireland, England and on the continent the strange looks from rental car companies when I asked for an automatic. Driving a manual doesn't seem to be as popular here, at least in the bigger cities, as it does over there.]
I'll have to take a camera on my next ride as there are a number of interesting bicycle-related-artworks along the tracks. Models of bicycles (from the penny-farthing to modern bikes) have been placed along the shared walking / bike track, and they all have a bit of information about the bike. Informative -- as well as providing the ability to take a much-needed break!
It was also interesting to see the different types of people out between 19.30 and 20.15: adults like me riding; older adults walking, either in pairs with their partners or with friends; recent parents out together pushing prams with their kids in them; kids riding bikes... There were more people out there exercising than I would've thought.
And I'm looking forward to the next ride.
