Late last week I was asked by ACNielsen, a market research company, if I would like to participate in their I-Scan Consumer Panel. It concerns itself with what snack foods, soft drinks, juices and alcoholic drinks I buy. I said, "Why not?"
Today I received my pack, which includes a very small scanner, only slightly bigger than the size of my car keys (well, it's not a key as such: the thing I press to lock and unlock the car: not only can I not drive a manual, I've got no idea what this thing is called!: I'm not very mechanical!) When I buy snacks or drinks, I press a button on the scanner while holding it over the barcode -- and it's done. I also scan some codes to state where I bought it. Then, once a week, I connect the scanner to my PC and send the results up via the internet. I'm guessing chocolate will feature rather prominently on my list.
I gain points from participating, and I can redeem them for various things. But, I enjoy surveys and research, so just doing it is reason enough for me.
