Systems Quality Management

A good lecture last night; looks like an interesting subject, and one that takes people, that often neglected component, into consideration as much as it does systems. A very 'out there' and entertaining subject co-ordinator gave the first lecture: an introduction as well as an overview of the first assignment [where an audible sigh of relief was heard from me when he said he was going to have grioup assignments but changed his mind at the last moment: hurrah!]

Another small class, and it appears another of great variety. Two Germans are in the class; I wished them Auf Wiedersehen on the way out as well as saying, as my first German teacher used to at the end of each class, Schlafen Sie gut; träumen Sie süß [sleep well; sweet dreams] -- and then wondered whether that was not a bit of an odd to say: but it was said and was out there. They didn't seem to run away in fright, so perhaps I'm over analysing. I sat down next to a fellow student, who has just started this semester and is doing the same course I am doing. He asked a bit about my subject from last semester, which he is doing now, and what it involved, as well as directions to the library: it was on my way to where I was parked so I walked with him and chatted some more.

One of the things I enjoy about study, be it formal like this or more informal like my language studies, is getting to know people. People are truly fascinating -- and there are so many out there! Yes, that is obvious, but I think of how if I were born many, many years ago I would have perhaps been in a village, or at least segregated in a large town, and would not have known that many people, let alone the different people in different careers and who have come from all over the world I get to meet in my various educational expeditions. And I simply find it fascinating and a joy and blessing to get to know, if only at the surface level, a bit about some of the people I might pass while rushing for a train or running round the supermarket in a rush.
