Today we celebrate Palm Sunday, the celebration of Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem. But we also ponder the ending of Christ's life on earth as we enter Holy Week and the suffering, death and glorious resurrection of Christ.
Troparia:
By raising Lazarus from the dead before Your passion,
You did confirm the universal Resurrection, O Christ God!
Like the children with the palms of victory,
We cry out to You, O Vanquisher of death;
Hosanna in the Highest!
Blessed is He that comes in the Name of the Lord!
When we were buried with You in Baptism, O Christ God,
We were made worthy of eternal life by Your Resurrection!
Now we praise You and sing:
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is He that comes in the Name of the Lord!
Kontakion:
Sitting on Your throne in heaven,
Carried on a foal on earth, O Christ God!
Accept the praise of angels and the songs of children who sing:
Blessed is He that comes to recall Adam!
Readings:
Matthew 21:1-11; 15-17 (Matins Gospel)
Philippians 4:4-9
John 12:1-18
I can't help but remember that wonderful hymn All Glory, Laud and Honour on Palm Sunday: it was always a feature of Palm Sunday services at Anglican and Catholic churches I attended:
To thee before thy passion
they sang their hymns of praise;
to thee, now high exalted,
our melody we raise.All glory, laud, and honour
to thee, Redeemer, King!
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.
