Thank God for Sacrament of Confession or Penance: I desperately needed it today and have been greatly comforted and reassured both by it and the Spiritual Guidance I received through my Spiritual Father.
The words spoken by our priest, after our confession of sins, I find also comforting:
May God Who pardoned David through Nathan the Prophet when he confessed his sins, Peter who wept bitterly for his denial, the Harlot weeping at his feet, the Publican and the Prodigal, May God forgive you all things, through me a sinner, both in this world and the in the world to come, and set you uncondemned before His terrible Judgement Seat. Now having no further care for the sins which you have confessed, depart in peace. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and to the ages of ages. Amen. Now having no further care for the sins which you have confessed, depart in peace: may God help me to leave them behind and move forward.
A most wonderful booklet on Confession, explaining both its history and practice, produced by our priest and based on Fr Thomas Hopko's If we confess our sins, is available via our parish website.
