On Wednesday evening we were given the sacrament of Holy Unction. The service consists of Psalms, prayers, seven Gospel and Epistle readings (I was asked to read #6, which was a privilege -- I read it instead of chanting as I have no talent in that department!), intercessions to the Saints and then the anointing -- one our forehead, chin, cheeks, and both sides of the hands. We were also given a small bottle of the oil to take home and use as part of our daily lives: when sick or when in need.
We have an Anoiting Service every month at our parish: I think I may avail myself more of it.
In mercy, O Good One, cast Your eyes upon the petitions of us who today have come together in Your Holy Temple, to anoint Your sick servants with Your oil divine.
Holy Thursday we commemorate Jesus' washing of His Disciple's feet; the institution of the Sacrament of the Eucharist; the agony in the Gethsemane; and the betrayal by Judas. Jesus' "hour" is almost come.
After a few nights of restless sleep, I gave the Service of the 12 Passion Gospels on Thursday night a miss (which is a Good Friday service: as with the Bridegroom services, this service anticipates the next day). I took a half-day off work, went to visit my grandmother, parents and came home and relaxed. I did desire to attend this service, but God know my desire I am sure. I slept well, thanks be to God: perhaps a bit too well! I've missed the Royal Hours, but will definitely be there in time for Vespers: God willing.
