It has just ticked over to ANZAC Day here. The "spirit" of the day seems to have revived greatly over the past few years: attendances at services and marches are up, and those under 25 are increasingly making their way to Gallipoli for commemorations there. I know as a fairly young person (29), I have found myself more interested in this day of late: during school and up to several years ago it was something neither I nor many of my friends gave much thought to at all. It just didn't seem to matter. The tide seems to be turning.
In several hours, dawn services will begin as we remember those who have given their lives in war; those who went away and, thanks be to God, returned; and those who are involved in wars and conflicts around the world now. Other events such as marches will also take place during the day.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
