This weekend is the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend, at least in every state/territory except Western Australia which has it later in the year. The Queen's Birthday Long Weekend is also the start of the official snow season in Australia: though a quick look at a resort in New South Wales and one in Victoria shows very little snow currently: I'll be heading down in early August -- hopefully by then there'll be more cover! -- with some friends for a weekend of skiing. I do love skiing.
Other than Miss Lisa's very enjoyable engagement party, this weekend is a stay-at-home-and-relax one. My grandmothers and mum came over yesterday for a very pleasant visit. We had a nice chat and some wonderful fish 'n chips from a shop just up the road.
Apart from that, I've been listening to some radio programmes from the archives of Our Life in Christ, an Orthodox radio programme -- or, program perhaps as they are American. :) Thanks to Jim who blogs with his wonderful wife Laura over at neepeople for drawing my attention to it in one of his posts: the recent programmes on Prayer and the Eight Tones were very informative as well as interesting. At the moment I'm listening to the show from January 2nd last year -- a selection of music they have played: here is the list. Beautiful.
Tomorrow, Monday, I'll hopefully listen to a few more shows from Our Life in Christ. I will probably also relax the brain and have some fun watching Season 3 of Xena: Warrior Princess and some Blackadder -- of which I'm also watching the third series. Oh, and there is some washing and ironing which has been staring at me for a while.
I will also do the Liturgical Variations for Vespers and Matins for next week: in fact, I may get a start on those now. I greatly enjoying preparing the variations for Vespers and Matins: it is wonderful to be able to reflect on the hymnography during the week as I prepare for the feast we will celebrate. And it is a great joy to be able to help, in a small way, with the needs of the parish.
I do hope all of you have had, or are having, a pleasant weekend: long, short or otherwise. What have you been up to?
