Hexham Bridge

A quick snap as I was stopped in traffic -- for about 5 seconds...: delays of 30 seconds are later...I love it up here! :)
This bridge was built in 1952 and is a steel truss bridge that lifts, originally to let ships carrying coal travel underneath it. Originally one lane each way, due to demand and congestion a higher concrete bridge built just to the north opened in 1987 to carry traffic in the opposite direction. I have read large tourist ships occasionally require this bridge to be opened.
This Google Map shows you the rough location of the bridge -- near the "A" marker. My sister's place is near enough to be a little south of the
Rich in Richardson Rd to the top-right of the map; my work is just a bit north-east of where
New Lambton is written at the bottom-middle of the map, near the intersection of the two roads. Perhaps, as per
baalam's comment
on this post, more suburbs/towns may be seen that reflect the motherland: a Google reveals a Hexham in England not-too-distant from the original Newcastle, though they are farther apart than ours; the
brae in Heatherbrae is no-doubt a Scottish connection.
