A very pleasant and relaxing Saturday morning. And a beautiful morning: blue skies and the sun shining down its warming beams. Lovely.
First up was a visit to the local library. I had quizzed the denizens of the Australia, NZ and Oceania Ship thread as to books they may recommend: Terry Pratchett got a few votes so I thought I'd give one of his a whirl, despite the fact I'm generally not into fantasy -- fantasy reading that is, I often think I live in a fantasty world! :)
I borrowed Pratchett's Carpe Jugulum, and the little bit of reading I did in a café (beautiful scones [the British ones] with jam and cream were had) proved the Shipmates right: I am greatly enjoying it. I also borrowed Anne Rice's Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt and a book on the Internet and the English Language by prolific writer David Crystal.
For my sister and brother-in-law's new house I bought them two native plants: a Lady O Grevillea and a 'Kings Park Special' Bottlebrush: they both look beautiful and I hope they like them. Having no green thumb whatsoever, I bought myself one of those little catcus-in-a-small-pot to put on the kitchen window: hopefully I can keep it alive.
On the way back home I stopped in at Wirrimbirra Sanctuary, which is about five minutes drive from my place. There I bought a White Waratah for my mum [lots of plants bought today!] and a Steve Parish Australian Animals: Parents and Babies book for my niece. Such vivid photographs: he truly does have a great talent. And Skye loves to flip through books, looking and pointing at the pictures.
Netx: I'll take the washing off the line, then I'll head back up to Sydney to see my sister, brother-in-law and Skye, and then to my parents to visit them and some relatives who are up from Hobart in Tasmania. I'll be spending the weekend at my parents place so I can catch up with my relatives more fully.
Have a wonderful weekend all.
