Matins Gospel: Mark 16:1-8

Liturgy Epistle: Romans 2:10-16
Liturgy Gospel: Matthew 4:18-23

Today, as we celebrated the Second Sunday after Pentecost, we remembered Christ's calling of the first apostles. Our deacon gave a very good sermon on the call to each of us to live lives that reflect our calling in Christ, and gave practical examples on how we can radiate the love and joy and peace we find in Christ. Reference was also given to St Francis' famous injunction, "Preach the Gospel at all times...and, if necessary, use words", to bring home the point that our actions can count far more than mere words at times.

On the topic of St Francis, please remember the clergy and parishioners of St Francis, Paddington in your prayers as they continue to look for a new Director of Music to continue their fine choral tradition. Today was the last Mass with their current Director of Music, who has been there since 1995: he is moving to take up the role of Director of Music at St Patrick's Cathedral, Parramatta.

Shipmate Cusanus was up from Melbourne for a short break in Sydney and I picked him up to take him to Divine Liturgy at our parish. After Liturgy, we made our way, once again, to the Belgian Beer Café for lunch. A very pleasant lunch and very pleasant company: it was great to see him again.
