Thank you all for the congratulations and the comments based on your experiences in terms of careers also; much appreciated. It is nice to know, as Jackie wrote, that either I am not so odd -- or I am here with a lot of oddballs. :) Either way, it is all good. And it is very nice to know that many of you took chances and made changes, and loved the results.
Mimi: I am not headed quite that far west...about 10% of the way. Perth is ~3,290 kms (~2,045 miles) west of Sydney; Narromine is only ~330 kms (~205 miles) north-west of Sydney.
