And I'm back.

What an absolutely wonderful holiday: absolutely glorious. I truly felt I was away for far longer than one-and-a-half weeks. I felt so relaxed, so at peace. But heading back to work has sapped a bit of that, as it always does. Oh well: I do have the wonderful memories, and a lingering sense of a restful and joyful time away.

It was great to catch-up with friends in Brisbane, and to meet new shipmates in Charleville and Brisbane, as well as experiencing a bit of the outback, Charleville and Brisbane -- my first visit to both places. Reports and photos to follow in the coming weeks.

While away, I saw three films that I greatly enjoyed. At a friend's place in Brisbane I saw the very fine Amadeus. With two shipmates in Brisbane I saw Ten Canoes. An outstanding story and beautifully directed. The colourful language and humour means that younger kids won't get to see it, but if you're over 15 I can recommend it and know you will be informed, touched and moved: a beautiful, beautiful movie. That evening I watched The Story of the Weeping Camel with them at their home: another wonderful film. It was very interesting to see two films in the one day dealing with indigenous people and culture. Though Arnhem Land and the Gobi Deserts are miles apart, in many ways, the strength of tradition and family, and the respect given to elders were very clear to see, being in sharp contrast to much of the western world today.

I do love watching movies: and it was wonderful to see three of them that I did so greatly enjoy.
