I saw an absolutely wondrous production by Opera Australia of The Pirates of Penzance last night: highly recommended.
This is the first time I've seen Pirates in any form, and heard all of the songs: and it was an absolute hoot of an evening. Applause echoed after every piece, and there were plenty of laugh-out loud moments. A rollicking good story as well, which was wonderfully and hilariously acted: and fantastic musical numbers as well. Pirates of the Carribean's Captain Jack Sparrow has obviously influenced the dress and manner of the Pirate King, as the as the advertisement shows.
A great night out: I'm looking forward to seeing more Opera Australia performances next year: The Marriage of Figaro and The Barber of Seville in particular.
