134 episodes watched [yes: that probably says a bit about me!], and Xena is at an end. My manager should be impressed: she kept asking me had I finished yet [with a roll of her eyes] as whenever she asked what I watched last night my response was almost always, "Xena".
There are many things I like about it: it is a fun show to watch, and the cinematography and direction are pretty darn good for a weekly series. I particularly enjoy the comic episodes, which often had me laughing out loud for so long I had to rewind [do you 'rewind' a DVD? what is the terminology?] so I could catch what I missed. But to me what was most interesting was the theme of redemption, which runs through the entire series: and I have to say that it is explored in a very deep and meaningful way. You may laugh at that, but to me the series truly did explore that theme [with a lot of kicking and punching and fighting along the way for good measure]: and the themes of friendship, one's past, one's beliefs, and more. I found that fascinating. The ending, where Xena gives up her life for others, paticularly brought home the point of redemption.
Six Feet Under is next: thanks to Semele who got me hooked via one episode I watched when I was down there visiting. Looking forward to watching it: the channel that screened it here put the episodes on far too late, and at irregular times, for me to watch it then. Thanks be to God for DVDs.
