Christianity in China

An programme always worth listening to is the BBC World Service's Reporting Religion. This week's episode looks at Christianity in China: a look triggered perhaps as Archbishop Rowan Williams begins his two week visit to China. Of particular interest was an interview with the Catholic Bishop of Hong Kong, Cardinal Zen and his hopes for religious freedom, and an interview with a woman preacher, imprisoned a number of times, and who, if I recall correctly, now lives in the US, and who was greatly involved in a Protestant Church in China: she was the fourth-generation of preachers in her family. Well worth a listen. And well worth recalling to mind those who are persecuted for their faith, and holding them in prayer, and also thanking God for the freedom we have to worship.

Another interesting programme, at least I think it will be, is Operatunity Oz which starts tonight: and I'll be watching one fellow in particular, Gaetano Bonfante, who is related, by marriage, to a work colleague. I missed the British version which screened here, but am looking forward to this one.

[edit: how exciting! I just saw part of an audition tape from fellow Wiblogger, and dear friend, Semele: sorry you didn't make it through: though it's exciting to see you on TV!]
