Arabic: Class II

Another fun class, with plenty of new words, and phrases, learnt. We watched a DVD of Maha [the character whose story and life we follow in the next few levels -- if I make it past Level 1!] introducing herself and her family, and we practised doing the same. We then looked at the Arab countries, and described them -- for example, Saudi Arabia is large; Morocco is far from Yemen; Iraq is close to Saudi Arabia.

I'm feeling a bit more at ease during Level 1 for the second time: though I only made it to Lesson 5 [out of 10] of Level 1 earlier this year before I had to pull out as I had no time. Now, I have more time to practice at home, especially via the great DVDs which accompany the textbook, so I feel as if I am keeping up and making progress. This week I'll be trying to increase my vocabulary: it is an area I didn't focus on during the Beginner's classes as I was focusing on the new alphabetic script. The textbooks come with an English Arabic dictionary, which is very helpful. I'll focus on adjectives this week as they are rather useful.

Tonight sees music class resuming: lesson 5 of 8 and we will be looking at rhythm and then instruments: the types, how they make sound, what sort of sounds, etc. Looking forward to it.
