Walking

I walked to and from work today: about six kilometres in total. Living relatively close to work, and I'm rather lucky with that, I thought I'd take the opportunity to increase my fitness -- as well as try and get rid of the belly I've developed. I've rode my bike a few times, but with no bike lane and some busy streets -- and a few incidents that shook me -- I've gone for what is probably a safer, if a bit longer, option. My current plan is to walk two, perhaps three, days a week: I still want to give myself two days of laziness! I get to walk over a river [the Georges] and around a lake [Clinches Pond: some ducks, galahs and sulphur-crested cockatoos were out today]. Walking is also said to be good for depression, so God willing that may help also when the "black dog" begins to loom large.

Arabic and music class continue well. I managed 10/10 somehow for my Arabic homework: I was rather chuffed. We had a review of the sun and moon letters, as well as some practice with various nouns and adjectives. It's still a struggle at times, as I expected it would be, but it is making sense -- and I'm having a great and fun time learning so I'm happy. The second-last music lesson looked at the Circle of Fifths [it is amazing how mathematical and relational music is!] as well as an overview of the main periods of music [Middle Ages; Renaissance; Baroque; Classical; Romantic; Post-Romantic; 20th Century]: we spent about seven minutes in each period -- a whirlwind tour of music!

Finally, the Personal DNA quiz seems to have taken some wiblogs by storm! I first saw it on Jan's blog, and a quick look reveals Rain, Jack, Nessa, Alice, Moog, Neil and Deeleea have done it also. Here am I:
