Ethical?
Correct?
As you know I've resigned. I said I'd be here until September 17, which worked out well with my trip to Oberammergau.
I am now thinking about what I am going to do after Oberammergau. And looking at a number of jobs, and making tentative enquiries, some are not against me taking a week or two off for a flying visit to Germany if I started work there in August. Not that I have anything: I'm still very much in the land of send CVs and applications and get no response at all. And I am aware that leaving 2 months in for a holiday is hardly a good thing to do nor would launch a candidate to the top of the queue.
But given there appeared a few jobs I believe I could do...can I turn around to my employer and say, 'Actually...I'm leaving earlier. In 4 weeks.' Obviously I can, but should I?
I am thinking it is wrong.
I am thinking that even if it was alright, if I did it I'd feel guilty.
I am thinking that I doubt I'd be happy if I did.
So the answer is therefore 'No'. Except I am worried about what I will do when I get back. Terribly worried. And perhaps, well, no perhaps, I am stretching my hand out for some measure of security. Grasping. I really am confused. And in mental overdrive: which doesn't help.
And it's all so darn confusing. Any advice, comments, criticisms appreciated.
[edit: forgot to say -- my replacement is still up in the air... With my leaving, and the planned collocation of 2 offices, a review of IT roles in the company will be underway in a few weeks; at best, I am guessing, I cannot see any decision made on what roles should be until August, and possibly mid-August. So I am documenting, documenting, and documenting; because it may be that I have little or no time to train a replacement; if indeed there is to be a replacement.]
