A wonderful day yesterday with my parents, sister and brother-in-law, and my niece, Skye, at Taronga Zoo. She liked the train and ferry trip in, and had a great time at the zoo. I expected her to get tired far more quickly than she did: she raced around for a good few hours before we put her in the stroller. She seemed excited as we saw each new animal, and seemed particularly fascinated by the emus in the walk-through area, though she kept her distance, and the little piglets: safe and secure, from Skye's fascination, behind a fence. The monkeys also had her entertained, though she informed us, "Naughty monkeys. Monkeys very loud. Noisy, naughty monkeys." She obviously values quietness. :)
Taronga is indeed a great zoo. A lot of thought has gone into the habitats, and there is a large variety of animals to see. And the animals do have some of the best views of Sydney Harbour. Add in the leisurely ferry ride from the city, a wonderful way to arrive, and you have one of the best days out in Sydney. I'll hopefully have some photos soon. On the topic of photos, I recently [this afternoon] made the leap to a digital camera: only as my old film one gave up the ghost. It's not a whizz-bang hi-falutin' one, but it'll do me: and the $100- off from a sale at the camera store made it that bit easier to buy.
In the evening, I caught up with a friend, who is soon to be married and was down from Brisbane for the weekend, and her friends at La Guillotine: wow. And wow again. A truly scrumptious meal, in wonderful surrounds, with the most helpful and just plain lovely wait staff. I do confess I threw any semblance of fasting to the wind (I am a poor example of giving things up), having the escargot, chicken breast with ratatouille, and finished with a Grand Marnier Crème Brulée. Mmmm. We then went off to Retro for some dancing. I must be getting old as the loud noise and cigarette smoke got to me so I left soon after: and I had to be up for church the next day anyway.
But all in all, a lovely evening, and a wonderful day. Many, many years to T & F as they set off on their life together.
