A most wonderfully funny movie, and a great one on which to end my viewing of the films in this year's French Film Festival. So popular was this movie, that it was playing in two of the cinemas at the same time -- we were directed to the one with the least people as the staff attempted to move two packed houses in. And they did a fine job.
Priceless (English title) sees the ever-wonderful Audrey Tautou and Gad Elmaleh playing a wonderfully matched pair. Irène (Tautou) meets Jean (Elmaleh) in a swank hotel and mistakes him for a young millionaire, and that is where the laughs begin. And they continue right through to the credits. Jean follows Irène to the French Riviera and, running out of money, finds himself the object of desire of a rich widow, while Irène snares a rich man. Together, all manner of hilarity, and conniving, ensues. This film is going to have a general release in a few weeks in Australia, and I can highly recommend it.
On the way home I stopped at the local Book/CD/DVD megastore and bought Le Dîner de cons (The Dinner Game) -- which I have seen once on TV here and greatly enjoyed, and am greatly looking forward to watching again -- and Delicatessen -- which I haven't as yet seen but have heard very good things about. Let the French Film fest continue!
