Appraisal

Today was the annual Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, a day for raising funds to contribute to cancer research and support services, as well as a day to highlight the effect and impact of cancer in Australian society. Due to various meetings and training sessions organised for today, we are holding it tomorrow. Many staff members are bringing in food they've prepared or bought [we are quite lucky to have so many people who love to, for any cause, bake or cook or buy something -- and we have some great cooks]: I'm heading to my local Italian bakery/sweet shop for two pastry selection plates. I generally bring in a (delicious, and oh-so-light) baked ricotta cake from there for brithdays or special morning teas, but as the employees there now know me as "The Ricotta Man", it may be time for a change!

I had a very positive -- very, very, very positive infact -- appraisal today. And it truly did make my day [especially after continued struggles with a particular project that seems like it will never end].

I received a number of compliments on my work. Management appear to have rather grand plans for me [grand in the terms of what is possible in a small organisation], which has been an encouragement as it shows they believe in me and my abilities. And they have a lot more belief in me than I do in myself; the assistant manager even told me, "You need to believe more in yourself and your abilities." Rather than programming and IT Software support, I'm to continue my basic network and LAN administration training, and also, perhaps, look at project management in the future as IT takes more and more of a role in the business and we, perhaps, hire more IT staff. My quest for, as my manager said, "An IT Empire", may well come true. :) Thanks indeed be to God.

Fun at trivia tonight: though we continue the ever-present downward spiral: we were first after a perfect Round 1; second after an okay Round 2; and third after a terrible (2 questions right out of 10!) Round 3. Oh well, a $10- food/drink voucher isn't too bad at all: and at least we now have some cash in the kitty.
