No Come Down O Love Divine, as I may've hoped [they sang it that morning], but a wonderful selection of hymns [a few new to me] and a beautiful anthem for Solemn Evensong with Procession at Christ Church St Laurence. I had to leave immediately after Evensong proper, just as Benediction started: perhaps next time I can remain.

Rejoice, the year upon its way began the service, with the hymns O thou who camest from above and the collection hymn Love of the Father, Love of God the Son following in the service, together with a glorious setting [Dyson's Service in D] of the canticles Magnificat [Luke 1:46-55] and Nunc Dimittis [Luke 2:29-32]. The anthem was Tallis' wondrous Loquebantur variis linguis. Evensong finished with a procession, and what a procession -- incense, banners, and the wondrous organ and choir -- to Thy hand, O God, has guided. A slice of heaven. I may have found my home in the East, but my musical heart [I may not have any talent but I know what I like!] remains firmly planted in the West.

On the topic of music and a slice of heaven, I'm Looking forward to the evening of June 16 where CCSL's choir, together with the choir of St Francis [a parish I do visit occasionally], the Australian Byzantine Choir and the Emanuel Ensemble, will join the choir of St James' King Street at St James' for an Interfaith Concert raising money for a homeless support programme run by St John's Darlinghurst.
