Financial Year Changes

These past few years have been interesting in terms of my interest in and awareness of a number of ethical issues: while I had some basic knowledge of environmental issues, ethics [ethics and Christianity in particular], issues and programmes such as Fair Trade and Make Poverty History passed me by, until I discovered, and later joined, the Wibsite.

Wibloggers, in particular Tractor Girl and Dave over at Cartoon Blog, and various threads on the Ship have done a great deal to further my knowledge as well, and, more personally, making me aware of what, I believe, to be my duty and responsibility as a Christian. And for this I thank you all.

I will be honest and say inaction has been far too present: I've made some moves to Fair Trade coffee and chocolate, looked at my giving to charity and poverty causes -- but there is a great deal more I could do easily. One thing I want to do, as the financial year here draws to a close [our financial year goes from July to June], is move my superannuation to an ethical fund, or at least to an ethical investment within a fund: it is something I meant to do last year, but it fell by the wayside. If anyone has any suggestions of finding ethical funds -- especially in Australia, though I'm happy for all ideas and experiences -- I'd be appreciative. I've found the Ethical Investment Association of Australia's web page and plan to take a good look at it soon.

As the year goes on, I'll be seeking more advice: I don't want to ask up-front for all ideas as I feel I may become overwhelmed. God willing, one step at a time, I can make the changes in my life I feel are proper.
