Hello Kitty

On this very windy Sydney day(*), at least out here [gusts of 65km/h so far and people looking out the window here at work as the trees bend and sway], the USS Kitty Hawk arrived in Sydney Harbour.

From The Sydney Morning Herald:

The US Navy aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk has arrived in Sydney Harbour.

The super carrier, accompanied by four other US navy ships, will berth at the Garden Island naval base and remain in Sydney until Tuesday.

The ships had been part of the joint Australian-US military exercise Talisman Sabre in Queensland.

...

Though local residents aren't happy:
Hundreds of cars were towed away from streets around Woolloomooloo this morning as the RTA imposed clearways for the USS Kitty Hawk's arrival.

Residents and businesses in the area are furious at the clearways, which they say have come with little warning and will be a huge inconvenience for the next six days.

...

The reason for the clearways was the massive traffic problems when the Queen Mary II and Queen Elizabeth II were in the Harbour at the same time, with people stopping their cars on the Harbour Bridge and various approaches, or down in Woolloomooloo [yes, we have a suburb named Woolloomooloo!], and getting out.

(*)edit at 17:30 -- Chaos caused by winds in Sydney -- thankfully my days of a long commute, over the Bridge and through the city, are behind me...
