Vocal Training

I returned to the gym tonight: BodyCombat. Feeling very sore, but rather good. I find such classes a fun way to not only, God willing, get fit and lose some excess weight, but also to release any extra energy I have: particularly nervous energy. I was feeling a bit jumpy today and felt my mood swinging [always a danger sign for an anxiety/depression sufferer]: I feel much better now. While I do enjoy riding my bike, I do enjoy the group exercise and find classes like this an enjoyable way to exercise -- I am not one for the gym equipment. And it was good to see one person from the class last time I went -- over a year ago. We had a nice catch-up chat before class.

The vocal training course class last night was great. Absolutely great. There are about 20 in the class [6 of us from our parish(*)]: all from different backgrounds and coming along for different reasons -- but all sharing a love of singing. The teacher is an absolute hoot -- she had us in stitches all evening -- as well as being very talented. Last night we looked at posture and breathing techniques. We finished with a rousing, if not entirely tuneful, chorus -- or three -- of Amazing Grace. Looking forward to next week.

Unordered commented below that it was rather brave of me. I admit it is rather nerve-wracking, and will be even moreso if (when?) we have to belt out a note or several solo. But, even if I discover my singing voice should never be heard in public, I am there primarily to have fun and learn a bit about not only singing but also breathing and projecting my voice and such: important should I ever decide to return to looking at teaching. And if I do discover my voice is horrid and untrainable, well, I'll still sing in the car and shower!

(*) on the topic of our parish, we are having a meeting after Liturgy on August 12 to decide on some future directions for our parish: your prayers are valued and appreciated.
