E-mail & The Internet

We rather rely on it, don't we? This was made abundantly clear today when we had a not-so-pleasant surprise at work.

One of Oz's communication providers [hint: begins with T and ends with elstra] decided that today was a good day to upgrade our broadband connection at work. A surprise to us as we had arranged to have this done on August 15. At 9am, all of a sudden, communications cut. After several phone calls, several needed as apparently T*lstr* do not update service logs until the job is completed so we had no way of knowing what was happening, I was told they had technicians and decided to do it today. Oh well. That's fine then. Don't tell us. Not sure what it says that a communication company is so bad at communicating.

At around 16:45 it came back up, but work still needs to be done on modems and firewalls and such -- the person we had coming in was, surprise surprise, unavailable as we had booked them for the 15th and 16th. God willing, sometime tomorrow, we shall re-enter the online world.

It is not just e-mail: though it was missed. Many, most, of our communications with other companies occur via the Internet, file transfers and such. And then there are those times where you think "I'll just Google that.", or, "I wonder what the latest news is?" And not forgetting checking the Wibsite! I'm sure more work got done today than ever.
